The 2025 Mini Cooper S Hardtop isn't just a slight upgrade. It's a comprehensive redesign on a new platform, and the most significant leap for the brand since BMW revived it. After many trips on city and highway roads, I confirmed that its fun-to-drive spirit remains intact underneath the added tech and newly polished design.

The most significant change is the new generation (code J01) platform built to accommodate both fully-electric and gasoline-powered configurations. The Cooper S, which I took on a week-long spin, has a new, more powerful version of the beloved 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The horsepower is up from 189 to 201 with 221 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard. Handling and maneuverability have been refined to improve its spirited performance.

Models/Price: The 2025 Mini Cooper comes in six different configurations that start around $30,000 and ranges up to $38,000 MSRP: The Cooper Hardtop 2-door ($30,125), Cooper Hardtop 4-door ($31,125), Cooper S Hardtop 2-door ($33,375), Cooper S Hardtop 4-door ($34,375), Cooper Convertible ($35,125), and Cooper S Convertible ($38,375). The Cooper S is a sportier, more powerful model.

Interior: The interior design has been modernized with premium materials, including a new 9.4-inch circular infotainment display that operates Mini's all-new operating system. The classic toggle remains, but a toggle shifter for the transmission and a rotary controller for changing drive modes have been added.

On the outside, it has smoother surfaces, squared-off shoulders, and larger wheels positioned further to the corners. The iconic hexagonal grille is now completely blanked off, and the LED headlights and taillights are more intricate than ever. It's unmistakably a Mini that has stepped firmly into the future.

The Cooper S still reigns supreme in the city, with quick acceleration, go-kart maneuvers, and the ability to fit into tight parking spots.

This Mini is much quieter on the highway than the previous version. Thanks to a more rigid chassis and improved sound insulation, it adds comfort without sacrificing the driving experience.

Safety: The Mini Cooper S comes with the latest driver-assistance tech, including Forward Collision Warning, Pedestrian Detection, Lane-Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with stop-and-go, and a hands-off semi-automated driving function for limited-access highways.
