All-New 2026 Subaru Uncharted Enters New EV Territory

The name Uncharted suits Subaru’s newest electric vehicle. With the all-new 2026 Subaru Uncharted, the automaker has ventured into uncharted territory that would have been unheard of just a few years ago: a sporty compact electric crossover with available front-wheel drive.
After spending a week driving the Uncharted across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, I came away thinking it’s one of Subaru’s most interesting new products—not simply because it’s electric, but because of its place in the lineup. All-new for 2026, the Uncharted is Subaru’s smallest EV and serves as an electric alternative to the popular Crosstrek. It slots below the larger Solterra, while the Trailseeker sits at the roomier end of Subaru’s expanding EV family.
Models/Price
Subaru’s EV lineup offers three configurations: the front-wheel-drive Premium ($34,995) with 221 horsepower and a 308-mile range; the Sport ($39,795); and the GT ($43,795) with dual electric motors, 338 horsepower, Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and dual-function X-MODE. The Sport has an EPA-rated range of 287 miles, while the GT averages 273 miles on a full charge.
The Premium presents an interesting trade-off. It offers the longest range and the lowest price, but it lacks the AWD system that has become synonymous with Subaru. For longtime Subaru buyers, the AWD Sport and GT may therefore feel more familiar.
Charging and Cost
The Uncharted has a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery and can reach 80 percent in about 28 minutes using its 11-kW onboard Level 2 charger or DC fast charging. The Uncharted can also be recharged at compatible Tesla Superchargers, a convenient option for longer trips. The average national cost to charge at home is about 18 cents per kilowatt-hour, which amounts to $14. Actual costs will vary considerably by utility, location, and time of day.
City Highway Performance
The Subaru Uncharted impressed on the highway, where its electric powertrain shone in heavy traffic. Together, the accelerator and transmission were powerful and responsive when merging into fast-moving traffic and passing slower vehicles. The 338-horsepower AWD model was fast, with independent testing putting the GT’s 0-to-60-mph time well under five seconds.
I enjoyed the Uncharted even more in urban driving. Its compact dimensions made it easy to navigate crowded streets and park in tight spaces. Stop-and-go traffic also highlights the pleasures of electric propulsion: smooth, quiet acceleration without the engine constantly starting, stopping, and shifting.
Offroad
Subaru hasn’t forgotten its outdoor-oriented customers. All Uncharted models offer 8.2 inches of ground clearance, while Sport and GT models add X-MODE for challenging road and weather conditions.
Exterior/Interior
Although the Uncharted looks like the electric Crosstrek, it has a sportier profile and lower-body cladding that preserves Subaru’s rugged personality. Available 20-inch wheels, short overhangs, and an illuminated front badge further distinguish it from the brand’s conventional crossovers.
A standard 14-inch touchscreen dominates the cabin, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for simplified smartphone integration. The GT moves further upscale with heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a panoramic fixed-glass roof.
Safety
The Uncharted raises the bar for safety with a suite of active driver-assistance features, including EyeSight Driver Assist and other systems that monitor surrounding traffic and reduce the likelihood of collisions. Traffic Jam Assist can also ease the workload during low-speed congestion, while the driver-monitoring system watches for signs of distraction or drowsiness. An available 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor helps when maneuvering in tight spaces.
My Take
After a weekend driving the Subaru Uncharted around Washington, Maryland, and Virginia, I was impressed by how quickly I stopped thinking of it as an EV and simply enjoyed the drive. It’s compact and quiet in the city, yet the 338-horsepower AWD models deliver plenty of punch on the highway. While the Premium offers an impressive 308 miles of range, I would lean toward the Sport, with its 338 horsepower, Symmetrical AWD, X-MODE, and 287-mile range, which provide an appealing balance of performance, capability, and value. Positioned between the familiar Crosstrek and the roomier Solterra, the Uncharted offers consumers an approachable entry into electric driving while retaining the versatility Subaru buyers expect. After decades of helping drivers conquer snow, mud, and rough terrain, Subaru is now taking them into the future of electric driving.
