With a significant makeover, the 2024 Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) SUV takes the brand's evolution to new heights. My weeklong test drive solidified its position as a compelling choice in the competitive compact SUV segment. The 2024 Kia Sportage Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) X-Line offers exceptional value and a unique blend of style and efficiency. Its bold, rugged design and tech-savvy interior set it apart. The practicality, cutting-edge style, and technology contribute to the Sportage PHEV X-Line's success in the competitive compact SUV market. It seamlessly blends the best of both worlds, offering the convenience of electric driving with the flexibility of a gasoline engine. The Sportage models, in general, consistently rank among Kia's top-selling models, competing well with other popular Kia models like the Sorento and Telluride. The 2024 Kia Sportage is a versatile SUV with multiple trim levels and powertrain options. Gas-powered models offer a choice between a standard and turbocharged engine, balancing performance and efficiency. The Sportage PHEV X-Line takes it a step further with a hybrid powertrain, delivering improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. Both models share a stylish design, a comfortable interior, and advanced technology features. The Sportage has gained popularity due to its style, practicality, and value. It consistently ranks among Kia's top-selling models, competing well with other popular SUVs. The PHEV X-Line offers a premium experience with its advanced technology and electric driving capabilities, while the gas-powered models provide a more traditional SUV experience. The 2024 Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) X-Line Prestige I tested has a bolder, more angular design and a refined, tech-forward interior. Powered by a combination of a gasoline engine and electric motor, it delivers a combined output of 261 horsepower. The Sportage PHEV also features a 13.8 kWh battery, providing an estimated all-electric range of 34 miles. Models/Price: The 2024 Sportage offers many gasoline engine options, including LX (starting at around $27,000), EX ($29,000), X-Line ($31,000), SX ($32,000), SX Prestige ($34,000), X-Pro ($36,000), and the X-Pro Prestige ($38,000).Gas Models: The 2024 Kia Sportage gasoline-powered models offer varying engine options. The base model has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine generating 187 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque. The SX and X-Line trims feature an optional turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 177 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque for enhanced performance. All engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Hybrid Models: The hybrid models start at around $30,000 and go up to $38,000 for the Plug-in Hybrid. The top-of-the-line PHEV X-Line Prestige, which I tested, is $44,090 MSRP. The regular hybrid model relies on a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors that combine for 231 horsepower. Performance: The Sportage's suspension strikes a good balance between comfort and handling. It absorbs road imperfections well, providing a smooth ride while offering responsive steering and confident cornering. Thanks to its compact size and good visibility, the Sportage is easy to maneuver and park in the city. The engine is smooth and quiet, and the transmission shifts seamlessly. The Sportage feels stable and composed on the highway, even at higher speeds. The optional turbocharged engine provides ample power for merging and passing. Technology: The 2024 Sportage is packed with the latest technology features, including a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a premium sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. An all-new 2026 Kia Sportage was unveiled at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show and is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2025.
