No gas was needed during a week behind the wheel of the all-electric 2024 Fiat 500e, a two-door hatchback with a delightful blend of retro-inspired design and advanced EV performance. The 2024 model has a few updates, making it an even more compelling choice for city drivers. Upgrades to the 2024 Fiat 500e include a refreshed exterior, front fascia, and LED headlights. The interior cabin has a new 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest Uconnect 5 software interface. This year’s model is also 2.2 inches larger with 1.7 more inches of shoulder room, making it less cramped. Battery Range/Charging: With a combined driving range of 149 miles or 162 in the city on summer tires, the 500e has a 42-kWh lithium-ion battery that takes six hours to charge on a Level 2 outlet and 35 minutes on an 11.0-kW DC Fast charger The 500e also has various driving modes that increase range by increasing regenerative braking, limiting the top speed to 50 mph, or reducing the horsepower. Models/Price: The 2024 Fiat 500e is available in three trim levels: InspiRed ($34,095), Inspired by Music ($37,595), and Inspired by Beauty ($37,595), which I tested.  The Red trim is well-equipped with features like automatic climate control and a 7-inch touchscreen. All models come with standard driver-assist features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering, Attention Alerts, Forward Collision Warning, and Parking Sensors. The Beauty and Music trims include leather upholstery. Horsepower/Performance: Powering the 500e is a single electric motor that delivers 118 horsepower and 147 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration is brisk enough for city and highway driving. Handling is agile, and the tight turning radius makes it easy to park and navigate in urban traffic.  The 500e feels composed and stable on the highway, though wind noise can become noticeable at higher speeds. The 500e's suspension balances comfort and sportiness and provides a smooth ride by easily absorbing bumps and potholes. MPGe/Fuel Economy: The 2024 Fiat 500e has many strengths, including city commutes, but long-distance travel is not one of them. The EPA-estimated range for all-season tires is 141 miles and 128 MPGe combined. Visit www.decisivemedia.net for a complimentary subscription to my auto blog.
