Once I got the opportunity to take the 2024 Nissan Sentra for a weeklong spin around Washington, D.C., I knew it wasn’t just any compact sedan when it arrived in my driveway. The 2024 Nissan Sentra, officially launched earlier this year, has multiple updates that have significantly improved its appeal and performance.
With a starting price of around $22,320, it is among the cheapest new cars on the market. One notable change is the exterior styling, which includes a new front fascia and restyled headlights. Additionally, the new Sentra has a sportier vibe with 16— and 18-inch alloy wheels that enhance its appeal and smoothness. Although it is not as fast as it looks, it also has an Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that improves fuel economy and performance.
Available Trims: The 2024 Nissan Sentra is available in multiple trims for different preferences and budgets. They include the entry-level S trim ($22,320), the SV ($23,250) with premium features, and the sportier SR ($25,410) with added features and styling. The SR trim specifically adds a restyled rear fascia and new interior accent stitching color, giving it a sportier vibe.
Although the base model has many standard features, the SV trim includes more advanced technology, including adaptive cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, and optional quilted leather upholstery.
The SV model also offers an optional premium package with an Intelligent Surround-View Monitor, exterior mirrors with turn signal indicators, and an eight-speaker Bose Audio System. You can add heated front seats to the SR model.
Power/Performance: Under the hood, the 2024 Sentra is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 149 horsepower. It is paired with a new Xtronic CVT and front-wheel drive. It also has an Idle Stop-Start feature that helps save fuel during stoplights.
Safety: Despite the lower price, the Sentra comes with the Nissan Safety Shield® 360, a suite of six advanced driver-assist systems. They include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane-Keeping assist.
Fuel Economy: The 2024 Nissan Sentra uses regular gas and has an impressive fuel economy, according to FuelEconomy.Gov. The base model averages 30 city/40 highways with a combined 34 MPG, while the SR model gets 30 city/38 highways with a combined 33 MPG.
