Audi’s transition from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles is more than just a strategy; it’s a bold leap into a new era. Serving as the cornerstone of this evolution, the 2025 Audi A6 Sportback e-tron redefines the heart of the brand’s lineup with a dedicated electric platform, sophisticated new tech, and a uniquely serene driving character.
Built from the ground up on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE), developed in collaboration with Porsche, the A6 e-tron sedan benefits from a dedicated EV architecture that unlocks a spacious interior with a completely flat floor and a low center of gravity. This foundation balances performance with efficiency.
The A6 exterior strikes a masterful balance between futuristic and familiar, remaining recognizable as an Audi, with an evolution of the single-frame grille, sharp digital Matrix LED headlights, and a muscular, aerodynamic profile that achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.23.
The cabin is a showcase of progressive luxury, showcasing a curved dashboard that integrates an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen. The absence of a transmission tunnel creates an incredibly airy environment. Audi places a strong emphasis on sustainable materials, blending soft textiles, metals, and recycled microfibers. The silence of the electric powertrain highlights the superb clarity of the available Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system.
Powertrain /Charging: The A6 e-tron is built around a sophisticated 100 kWh (94.4 kWh net) battery and an 800-volt architecture, enabling DC 10-80% recharging in just 21 minutes. The A6 has two core configurations:
· A6 Sportback e-tron (RWD): A single rear motor producing 375 horsepower enables a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds.
· A6 Sportback e-tron quattro (AWD): Dual motors deliver a combined 456 horsepower, slashing the 0-60 mph sprint to 4.3 seconds. For the performance-focused, the S6 e-tron variant boosts output to a staggering 510 horsepower.
Pricing/Models: The 2025 Audi A6 Sportback e-tron is available in several models, including Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. The RWD Premium model starts with an MSRP around $65,900, while the AWD Quattro version begins slightly higher. The top-tier Prestige trim reaches into the mid-$70,000s. The high-performance S6 e-tron has a starting MSRP of nearly $80,000.
The Audi SQ6 e-tron SUV, which I tested earlier, was also introduced in 2025 as an all-new performance model built on Audi's new Premium Electric (PPE) platform. It generates 510 horses from dual motors.
Behind the Wheel In the city, the A6 Sportback e-tron Quattro I tested felt refreshingly nimble. Freed from the weight of a heavy front engine, the steering is light and precise. Well-calibrated one-pedal driving simplifies stop-and-go traffic, and the instant torque makes maneuvering effortless. The available adaptive air suspension glides over road imperfections.
On the highway, it transforms into a silent, stable grand tourer. Wind noise is virtually absent, and the low-mounted battery gives it a planted, confident feel during high-speed lane changes. However, the RWD drive model boasts an EPA-estimated 392 miles of range.
